Yarn Poms

I've been utilizing a spare moment (or hour) of free time here and there to work on decor for the baby shower.  Wednesday I decided to bust out my yarn skeins to get started on yarn poms.  I had a few hours before I had to meet my workout buddy at the gym.  Wednesdays we do legs in the weight room.  Not fun.  Thursdays and Fridays will be known hereafter as "Can someone pick up whatever I just dropped on the floor because I can't get down there and back up without crying" days.  My coworkers love me.
Yarn poms are pretty freaking awesome.  Cheap.  Cute.  Easy.  Me gusta!

I'm a bad blogger, so I didn't take pictures of the first few steps.  Meh.

Depending on how large you want your pom, you'll use two, three, or four fingers.   Basically you wrap the yarn around your fingers, tie it with floral wire, and cut.  Go crazy with the wrapping of the yarn - the bigger the better!  If you don't use enough, your pom will be sparse and blah.  Use a ton of yarn...I don't think you can use too much...to make it really full and fabulous.

After wrapping the yarn around your fingers so you have a giant circle/loop of yarn, gently pull the pile of yarn off your fingers, being careful not to mess up the beautiful giant loop.  Wrap a piece of floral wire around the middle so that you have two loops of yarn on each side.  Tie the floral wire really tightly - we don't want any yarn escaping!
The edges of the yarn loops tend to spread out, making the two loops look more like one big bun.
 Next, cut the loops!
I would avoid doing this some place that isn't easily vacuumed or cleaned...you will be covered in yarn dust.  See it in the air in the above photo?  Gross.

So you'll end up with a funky, lopsided yarn pom that isn't very pom-like at all.  What the heck?
Give that baby a haircut.  The shorter you cut the yarn, the more full the pom will seem.  My goal was just to make it appear even all the way around.  Sometimes I failed at that.  Sometimes I didn't.
Aren't they awesome?  I made some white and dark pink ones as well.  Clip the floral wires to change the heights of the stems...um, duh? :)
I work the weekend.  Colorado is supposed to be enjoying weather in the mid 50's.  Boo for work.
