As promised, the Turkey Day signage.
I had to take some technical photos for an upcoming "thing", so I enlisted the help of a friend to cut boards with my circular saw, use the kreg jig, and paint...while I took pictures of her. This was a while back, maybe in September?
I had her cut a scrap 1x4 into a couple pieces, then had her kreg jig them together, then paint the resulting board. I don't remember why, but there ended up being two coats of different colored paint on the board. I set it aside after pictures, and forgot all about it.
This past weekend I was going through junk in the garage, cleaning off shelves, sorting through piles of sawdust covered nothingness, and I came across the painted board. I was about to toss it into the "throw" pile, but grabbed my orbital sander instead and went to work for five minutes on the scrap board. I liked what I saw.
I brought the two-toned distressed board in the house, decided on a saying, printed the saying, cut out the letters, and traced them onto the board.
You can barely see my traced letters. This seems like it would take forever, but in reality I only wasted twenty minutes of my life on the whole project. I found some left over acrylic paint in my craft basket to use to fill in the letters.
I ended up really liking it! I was going to sand over the letters to distress those a bit, but it was too cold in the garage. And I'm lazy. And I like the sign the way it is.
Not to shabby for a quick Friday morning project, eh?
I'm considering picking up a small can of red paint to make some Christmas-related signs. Even putting a word or two on a couple different 1x4s or 1x6s and arranging them together might be kind of cool. I've been gradually pulling my Christmas decorations out of the basement. Every day I'll bring up a different tote. Christmas pillows and blankets for the living room, kitchen towels, wreaths...eventually I'll get around to the Christmas tree.
In past years, I've used trendy colors for my Christmas decorations. One year was teal blue and silver, another year was rusty orange and plumy purple. The two Christmases I've spent at our current home, I've used the traditional silver, gold, and red. I think I'll stick with those colors for awhile. You can't go wrong with tradition, right?
I'm going to get out of bed and go admire my new sign.
I heart days off of work. I can be in bed at 7:46am and not feel bad about it.
Wait!
Funny story before you leave. Before I leave. Before we depart ways.
I made Wilberforce a truck load of treats to bring to work. I have this thing with baking, but with my new healthy lifestyle (25 lbs down!) I can't partake in my baking bounty, so I send it all to work with Wilberforce. I'm getting sidetracked though.
So I was cutting twine to use to tie up the treat baggies while I was talking to Wilberforce. I glanced at the treat filled baggies and counted quickly under my breath "five, ten, fifteen", then kept talking to Wilberforce. He stopped me.
"How did you do that so fast?"
"Do what? Count by fives?"
Silence. We both started grinning.
"Umm. I kind of do that for a living, Willm."
It was hilarious. You had to be there.
Don't you hate it when you think story is so funny, then you tell it and it doesn't sound as funny as it actually was?
*sigh*
Ah well.
You're so crafty! The sign is cute and your Halloween porch was adorable!
ReplyDeleteWho knew counting by fives was so useful? Don't worry...I laughed.
