Twin Farmhouse Headboard/Footboard

My mom and the ninja and the Bean are at my house!  We've been super busy with all our wonderful activities, but I thought I would get a couple pictures up of my most recent project.

Sorry for the poor quality of the pictures - I borrowed a friend's lens, not realizing the lens was a DX which doesn't work too fabulously on my FX camera.  Whoops.

The before:  lovely burgundy and a daybed.

The after:  a barely green "Sea Wind" (Benjamin Moore) wall, handmade farmhouse bed, and handmade side table/cupboard/cubbie/shelf things.
 Turquoise furniture?  Why not?
The side table/shelf thingies still need the middle shelf and I have to attach the doors.  I also have two baskets under that shelf to the left now...promise.
Still have the trundle bed, don't worry!  We even raised the top mattress so the trundle is ten times easier to slide out from underneath the bed.  Of course with the new layout we have to move almost every piece of furniture in the room to get the lower mattress out...so we'll be using that baby only when we have no other choice...if ever.
I like it.  Still not sure how stable the bed is.  It's attached with the same exact bolts that attached it to the old daybed frame...not sure why I'm so uneasy about it's stability.  Might add some reinforcements to it in the near future - wouldn't want any houseguests suing me when they crash to the floor in the middle of their REM cycles.  Tragic.

Another little project I completed:
The chalkboard was originally a picture frame.  I primed the glass, sprayed it with chalkboard paint (three coats), painted the frame, and waa-lah!  A happy little chalkboard to write happy little notes to the hubby.  Awwwww....(you can vomit if you want to...I kinda do).

Have a fab-tastic weekend!  We're headed to the butterfly pavilion tomorrow!

  1. Very nice! And I'm really liking that bedding. I need to keep a mental note of that shade of blue-green.

  7. Beautiful bed! That is exactly how I want my bathroom cabinets to look. Any chance you would share instructions on how you did it and what color/brand paint you used? :)

  9. Of course, Crystal! I used Benjamin Moore semi-gloss paint - the base layer is Moonlight White, the top coat *i think* is Palladian Blue...I'm not sure on that color - I'll try to find the old paint can! I applied a thin coat of the Moonlight White on the pine after sanding. Then a quick coat of the blue - let it all dry overnight. Sanded down to the base coat and/or wood wherever I wanted! I didn't apply any topcoat...thought I might get bored with this and want to sand down so it's more white than blue eventually, and no top coat might make that easier - it's always evolving!

Thanks for all the great comments everyone! So glad you all stopped by!
