Photographer Willm

Last night we grilled chicken and veggies.  Mmmmm delicious.  Will is a professional griller...it's pretty much why I married him.

Maybe not. Oh well.

While we were getting stuff ready for the grill, I noticed the sun had finally peeked out of the clouds!  It was around 7:30pm...perfect backlight time.

I've been reading a bunch on my photography forums on backlighting.  I tried backlighting once and it went horribly wrong.  But last night the light was perfect, and I had spent the day golfing in a windstorm with Will, so he couldn't say no! Muahahaha!

Something no one ever told me about backlighting before: you have to have hair to make it look cool.  And to keep your ears from turning into bright orange glowing slabs of meat on the side of your head.
Backlight fail.
On a side note, Willm has narcolepsy.  Sometimes he'll fall asleep right in the middle of our mini-photo shoots!  It's ridiculous and dangerous.  One time, he was balancing on a bridge railing...I was setting the exposure on my camera and looked up and he was gone!  Fell in the water!  Luckily he can swim...

In this picture he just blinked.  He's not sleeping.  I think.

Moving on...

Backlighting did not work on William's short haired head.  Since he owes me a bazillion favors for golfing in less than ideal weather, I metered the camera and made him switch me spots.

Will is one of those people who picks a hobby and has to know everything about it.  He started smoking a pipe a couple years ago and read everything he could find on the internet about it.  He goes to the handgun safety course, then has to watch 1,400 YouTube videos on handgun technique.

Luckily for me, he likes my photography hobby a little bit, so he asks me questions about it and tries to learn.  When I tell him to put the little square on the subject's eyeball, he puts the little square on the subject's eyeball.  He knows how to meter the camera in most situations.  And most importantly, he knows that if he drops the camera, he might be shot on sight.

So Will took some backlighting shots of me, which turned out way better than the ones of him...because I have hair and you can't see my ears glowing.
Please ignore our sunburned faces.  We forgot sunscreen on golfing day one, and are now little Clark Lobsters.  In a week we'll be little Peeling Clark Lobsters, and that will be awesome!

Anywho, our backlighting experiment worked!  I just need to find girls or hippies with long hair to take these kinds of pictures.  Hooray!

We're off to Cheyenne today to paint pottery with Nat and Becca.  It was supposed to be thirty degrees and snowing today, so I cancelled a get together with a girl from work - I was going to teach her how to use her camera she bought from me.  I woke up this morning and the sun is shining...no snow.

Boo weatherman.
