Birthentine Day

I made myself a birthday cake for my first 29th birthday. 

It was awesome. 

Being sick and working on my birthday was not awesome. Meh. I'll have many more 29th birthdays to celebrate, so I'm not too bent out of shape about it. 

My momma and padre sent me a giant box of birthday surprises! It was waiting on my doorstep when I got home from work Friday. 

This locket is perfect! You can't see the charms in this picture...but they're all wonderful! I've been wearing it non-stop since Friday...that Momma, she's so good at present picking. 

I also got a supply of baby spoons. I have this thing about using miniature silverware to eat with...I steal baby spoons from the farm when I visit, cause Mom has a special spot in the silverware drawer for mini forks and spoons.  I think she keeps them for the monsters, but I took aGerber baby spoon last year. 

I confessed when I visited in January.  Stealing spoons from your mom is breaking one of the Ten Commandments in the worse way. So what did she do to punish me? She gave me the other Gerber spoon, too. Like the prodigal son...except not. But Whatevs. 

Anyway, I forgot to bring the spoon back to colorado with me, but since my mom loves me so much she found a whole boatload of tiny spoons and sent them to me in my birthday box! 

See?  My tiny spoon is the perfect size to scoop blackberries. It was meant to be! 

I got my nails did last Wednesday for the first time in yeeeeaaaaaars...

...and Wilberforce took me for birthday sushi before he left for Palm Springs. 

Here's how I've felt the past week while being sick: 

I also haven't been able to blow dry my hair in a week because when I bend over, all the pressure in my head shifts to my face and I'm fairly certain my eyeballs might pop out of my skull if I stay like that for more than 3 seconds at a time.  

I've been self medicating with water, sleep, and a break from the gym.  You'd think I would be taking a crazy concoction of OTC drugs, beings I'm kind of in the business of selling drugs. But I'm a firm believer in the power of water...and a big doubter of the efficacy of OTC cough and cold meds. Of course, if I told patients that drinking more water works just as well as Mucinex for mucus, they'd give me dirty looks and get tiiiiiicked.  

I've been puzzling a lot lately. 

And I'm starting the "most difficult puzzle ever" that Mom sent me in the birthday box. Get excited!
