Consignment? Why not?

Enough baking posts for awhile, eh?

During my weekend pinning at work (I deserved a five minute break, trust me...cops were involved in my workday Sunday), I found this sparkly outfit.

Pretty, huh?

Ps...this lady's website blows my mind.  She's a housewife who spends thousands of dollars on clothes/shoes/accessories every year.  Most of the items she posts about purchasing are hundreds of dollars...per item.  Craziness.

Anyways, I saw this picture and thought to myself "Hmm...I have a sparkly tank...and a button-down shirt.  But somewhere in the past five years and nine residences, I seem to have lost my denim jacket.  Sad."

And that was that.

My hometown in Iowa used to have a consignment store; I remember going there with my mom to sell clothes when we were little...after they had been outgrown by the littlest sister and were of no use to our family anymore.  I've always wondered if consignment stores were still around or if Goodwill was my only option for getting rid of clothes.  I was too lazy to check, so always took my stuff to Goodwill.

However, this year I stumbled upon Plato's Closet and Clothes Mentor in Northern Colorado.  Plato's Closet buys "gently used" juniors clothes; Clothes Mentor buys "like new" women's clothes.  Score!

Wilberforce and I went to breakfast at the BlueBird Cafe in Fort Collins this morning at 8:00am.  It's at least a thirty minute drive from our house, so we were up e.a.r.l.y.   I was done with all my errands by noon!  Anyways, I stopped by Clothes Mentor on my way home to sell a few things.  While I waited for the women to sort through my clothes, I browsed the racks.

Jack. Pot.       For. Serious.
How about a GAP blazer, new with tags still attached, for $14?
I need to find a lint roller...my white scarf I wore today didn't take too kindly to the blazer.
Found this New York and Company blazer for $14, too.  I've been looking for one like this since before Chicago!
It's a size too big, but I won't button it and it'll be wonderful!

Then, after finding the two blazers, the women still weren't finished going through my clothes, so I kept hunting.
This, my friends, is a brand new $98 denim jacket with tags still attached, which I purchased for $22.
See that?  Those are tags.  This jacket is new.  I am happy.
Shopping at consignment stores is almost like garage-sale-ing, Mom!  But waaaay easier because everything is sorted by size and type.
Isn't this the coolest thing ever?  Where have you been all my life, consignment stores?
Oh yeah, I picked up this scarf, too.   By the time I was finished shopping, my clothes were sorted and I had to pay the store $9.  Not too shabby - three awesome jackets and a scarf for $9!

When I got home I went through my closet and found my Pinterest outfit.  (PS, that tank is sparkly, you just can't tell in this picture).
Kinda close, eh?

----------------------------------------------

I attempted to make Chocolate Whiskey Cupcakes today.  The cupcakes turned out delish.  The frosting, not so much.  The frosting recipe was a new one I've never tried before.  It was going great until I added the butter.  I'm not sure if it's called "breaking", but if it is, my frosting broke.  It thinned out and all I had was a bunch of slimy, buttery chunks.  Boo.  So I threw everything away.

My first baking fail.  Sad day.

  1. 1. I am jealous you can pin at work.
    2. That outfit is adorable. Next time you're back in Iowa you can teach me how to dress. :P
